When will the Coaching online courses become available?

Online educational modules for coaches and parents are set to launch in phases, starting in late Fall 2025. Subscribers will receive email notifications as courses become available. Additionally, USTA Coaching will also be offering live online events and webinar opportunities in addition to the badges and certifications being available. Webinar recordings are emailed within 24-48 hours to the coach's registered email.

Is a RSPA, PTR, or USTA Coaching certification required to coach tennis?

No, certification is not required to coach tennis, but earning a USTA Coaching Certification elevates everything you do on and off the court. It gives you nationally recognized credibility, enhances the quality of your programs, and ensures players receive the best possible experience.

Do I have to earn a badge before pursuing certification?

Yes, coaches must acquire or have equivalency for the USTA Development Coach badge before going into the certification pathways. The USTA Development Coach badge is designed for those new to coaching to build specific competencies before taking on a full certification pathway. The Development Coach Badge is earned by completing Intro to Coaching 1 and 2 and attending a 1/2 day in-person workshop. See if you have already earned equivalency into the development coach badge.

How long does it take to become a USTA Coaching Professional?
- Achieving USTA Coaching Professional certification through the USTA Coaching Education pathway typically takes 6 months to 2 years. This timeframe is influenced by multiple factors. This includes the coach's prior experience, their availability to participate in required in-person workshops and how frequently the coach is working to complete the online modules.
How much does it cost to earn a certification?
- Your annual USTA Coaching package includes access to online education for certification. The Baseline package offers limited access, while the Rally, Pro, and ProPlus packages provide full access to all necessary online education to begin your certification journey.
- The first level of certification is the Professional Coach Certification. Please note that required in-person workshops for this and future certifications may involve additional fees.

How much does it cost to earn the USTA Coaching Master Certification?
- USTA Coaching Master certification will be available starting in 2027 and details about the cost will be published closer to the launch date.
How do I see my certification equivalency with USTA Coaching?
- To recognize your RSPA/PTR certification status, you must enter your active member number during the package purchase process. Your certified level will display on your USTA Coaching Profile within 48 hours. Beginning Q1 of 2026, USTA Coaching Equivalency designations for Development Coach badge and Professional Coach certification will be visible on qualifying coach profiles. Coaches who are eligible for Specialist and Master Professional certification equivalency will see those designations on their profiles beginning in Q2 2026 and 2027, respectively.
Where do I get my certificate of completion?
- Once you complete a certification, you will see an animated congratulations message and have the option to download your certificate directly from the platform.
