The USTA Coaching Education Pathway is a modern, flexible learning system designed for all levels of tennis coaches - from parents and teachers to high-performance professionals. The framework includes two learning options: Badges (modules, workshops, and assignments) and Certifications (a collection of badges) to create a customized learning journey.
This article focuses on Certification Transfer and Equivalency, including how prior learning or credentials (such as PTR or RSPA certifications) can be recognized within the USTA Coaching framework, and how the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) process works.

Certification Transfer and Equivalencies
How do I earn equivalency for USTA Coaching badges, workshops or certification if I am PTR or RSPA certified?
-
USTA Coaching values the diverse professional skills and experience that coaches bring from other professional pathways. Our equivalency process allows current PTR and RSPA-certified coaches to receive recognition for their existing credentials.
- We will implement a phased approach, starting with current certified coaches and participants in USTA Coaches workshops. The program will then broaden its scope in Q1 2026 to encompass lapsed certified coaches, private and public facility coaches, high school coaches, internationally certified coaches, and other profiles.
- Equivalency ensures that your prior experience counts, while connecting you to the USTA Coaching pathway for continued growth and recognition. Click here for equivalency chart.
I have my PTR certification. How do I get USTA Coaching to recognize that equivalency?
- We’d love to help you with your certification equivalency! Because we’re no longer receiving automatic data updates from PTR, we just need you to provide proof of your current certification manually.
Please upload a copy of your certificate to our portal.
If you don’t have your certificate, you can contact PTR to request it so you can share it with us. Log in to your PTR account to download your certificate, or call PTR at 843-785-7244.
Once we have that on file, we can finalize your equivalency.
I have my RSPA certification. How do I get USTA Coaching to recognize that equivalency?
- Coaches looking for equivalency from RSPA will need to enter their RSPA member number on the Affiliations and professional organizations section of your "My profile" page. Approvals can take up to 48 hours and will be displayed on your USTA Coaching profile.

What is USTA Coaching's policy on Continuous Professional Development (CPD) program, and how will it work?
- USTA Coaching is evolving its approach to CPD through the launch of Progressive Education Development (PED) in Q1 2026. Unlike traditional, credit-based systems, this model is milestone-based and learner-centered, allowing coaches to personalize their development journey through a mix of online modules, engagement with the resource library, and applied workshops. Fully integrated into USTA’s Coaching digital ecosystem, the program recognizes real progress and practical application, not just participation. It is designed to keep coaches current, skilled, and aligned with athlete-centered principles, while supporting their ongoing growth and impact across the diverse roles and environments in which they coach.
Do you recognize certifications from other countries?
-
Yes, coaches who hold international coaching credentials can apply for certification equivalency with USTA Coaching. Those who submit an application will have their qualifications reviewed by the education team. If the qualifications meet the standards of the certification pathway, USTA Coaching will notify the coach of their recognized equivalency.

My profile is currently displaying an inaccurate certification level. What is the process for updating this to the correct designation?
-
If you received credit for a non-USTA certification (such as RSPA, PTR, ITF, WTA, or ITA), please consult our Equivalency Chart to see your corresponding USTA Coaching level.
- Note: Coaches qualifying for 'Specialist' or 'Master' levels will temporarily see 'Certified Professional' on their profiles. Your status will be updated automatically when those specific curricula launch in late 2026 and 2027.
-
